ABOUT CALAHONDA

Calahonda is east of Marbella and almost centrally placed between Marbella and Fuengirola.  Easy access via the motorway enables travel to anywhere on the Costa del Sol.  Málaga’s international airport is 25 minutes away and Marbella’s and Fuengirola's large shopping centres can be reached in just 15 minutes.

The region stretches gently from the coast up to the undulating hills 300 metres above sea level, offering fantastic views of the surrounding countryside running down to the sea and along the coastline to Gibraltar and África; the African Mountains and African coastline are often clearly visible.

The area of Calahonda was formed by the merging of two real estates originally owned by the family Gerardo, Enrique and Elvira Van Dulken.

The fort house on the land dates from the same period as the watchtowers along the coast and during the period of the Moorish attacks the fort house gave shelter; it was therefore constructed with it’s big fireplace to prepare meals and give warmth.

The founder of Calahonda was Mr Juan Orbaneja when in 1963 members of the Orbaneja family came to the coast looking for land to urbanize.  Among the areas they saw was Calahonda which they liked because of it's characteristics and appearance; covered with pine trees and with a peak of 300 metres giving beautiful sea views.  They purchased part of the land from the Van Dulken family and about 120,000m2 from General Egea (the owner of the fort house on the beach).  The association in charge of the urbanization was called Calahonda Urbanizations and by 1980 there were 500 houses on the development.

Calahonda offers the possibility of living in an urbanisation of quality and prestige with Puerto Banús only 15 minutes away and Málaga airport within 20 minutes drive.

The urbanisation extends gently from the coast up to the undulating hills 300 metres above sea level, offering fantastic views of the surrounding countryside  and along the coastline to Gibraltar and Africa which is often clearly visible.  Great views can be experienced from one of the highest points in Calahonda towards Marbella, Puerto Banús and the red mountains of Estepona.

Calahonda has is own harbour, Puerto Cabopino, where you can practice most types of nautical sports and activities like sailing, wind surfing, paragliding, kite surfing, dolphin watching and skin diving.

There are fine sandy beaches and to the west you can walk along the beach  to Marbella, passing the Artola dunes [a protected national park] with its restored Moorish lookout tower.
