ABOUT COSTA DEL SOL
The Costa del Sol is probably the best known of all the Spanish Costas. Situated in the most southerly province of Andalucia, it stretches along about 300 kms of Mediterranean coastline – approximately from Sotogrande in the west through Estepona, San Pedro, Puerto Banus, Marbella, Calahonda, Fuengirola, Mijas Costa, Benalmadena, Torremolinos, Malaga, Velez-Malaga, Torrox and to Nerja in the east.
This is an attractive stretch of coastline with many fishing villages and towns which have now become holiday resorts. Much of this coastline has high hills or mountains very close, creating some dramatic locations.
The City of MΓ‘laga is the capital town of Andalucia and looks out over the picturesque coastline. The costal tourist centres on the Costa del Sol include: Nerja to the east of MΓ‘laga and to the west, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Estepona and of course Marbella with it’s Puerto Banus which was built in the 1970s and considered to be the most sophisticated and exclusive seaside resorts along the Costa del Sol. Yachts and leisure-craft owned by the international ‘jet set’ are moored in the harbour.
The proximity of very diverse countryside of the Guadalhorce Valley – full of orchards, the mountains and the sea is undoubtedly one of the main attractions of this coast.
The airport servicing Costa del Sol is conveniently located in MΓ‘laga which is roughly central to the costa and within 1hr drive to all parts.
BENALMΓDENA COSTA (From TORREMOLINOS to FUENGIROLA)
This municipality, which stretches from the southern foothills of the Sierra de Mijas to the seaβs edge, consists of three population centres, which are now practically joined together, but which nevertheless are still well differentiated: Benalmadena Pueblo, Benalmadena Costa and Arroyo de la Miel. Benalmadena can be reached by a four-lane highway and by train. There is also an excellent marina that is being enlarged in order to enable small cruise ships to dock.
MIJAS-COSTA (From FUENGIROLA to MARBELLA)
Sitio de Calahonda in Mijas Costa is the largest urbanisation on Costa del Sol and is within Β½ hour drive of MΓ‘laga Airport and with its own access point to the coastal toll road. Calahonda bordering on Marbella’s municipal boundary, is a residential development comprising of private villas and apartments, two shopping centres and all the associated services for its cosmopolitan population of residents and visiting tourists.
THE GOLDEN MILE (MARBELLA to PUERTO BANΓS)
Marbella, the pearl of the western Costa del Sol, offers sophisticated lifestyle benefits for everyone, including the wealthy and famous, many of whom have chosen to make it their holiday or permanent home.
Puerto BanΓΊs is renowned throughout Europe for its sports marina bristling with luxurious yachts and an array of enticing bars and restaurants to satisfy every taste.
THE NEW GOLDEN MILE (EAST ESTEPONA )
Much of the more recent property development has been along this stretch of the coast which benefits from the proximity of Marbella to the east and Estepona to the west.
Property options here run across the entire spectrum of style, quality and price and right now there are many bargains to be had.
The western Costa del Sol has the best climate in Europe and a tourist infrastructure second to none.
